Why Seating Matters

Good seating creates good energy. When athletes sit with a mix of teammates across grade levels, conversations flow better, underclassmen feel included, and the whole event feels cohesive. Poor seating leads to cliques, awkward silences, and a disjointed experience.

Three Seating Strategies

1. The Mixed Team Approach (Recommended)

Mix athletes across grade levels and positions. Place seniors at each table as table captains to lead conversation and welcome younger teammates.

Best for: Programs wanting to build team unity beyond the season.

2. The Varsity / JV Split

Varsity athletes at tables near the front/head table, JV and freshmen in the remaining tables. Easier to organize but can feel hierarchical.

Best for: Large programs with 100+ athletes where mixing isn't practical.

3. Position / Unit Grouping

Offensive line, defensive backs, forwards, midfielders — group athletes by position. Creates natural conversation and shared memories.

Best for: Football, soccer, and other sports with clear position groups.

Sample Table Layouts

Round Tables (8-10 per table)

Best for conversation. One centerpiece per table. Suggested for 40-120 guests.

Long Rectangular Tables (12-16 per table)

Best for buffet-style service. Place a centerpiece every 4-6 feet. Suggested for larger groups.

Head Table Setup

Position coaches, athletic director, and senior class at a long table facing the room at the front. Ensure the head table also has centerpieces that match the rest of the room.
